Call For Papers: Art & Science – Hybrid Art and Interdisciplinary Research
Lugemisaeg 2 minThe conference Art & Science – Hybrid Art and Interdisciplinary Research will be held from 30 May to 1 June 2014 in Tallinn, Estonia. Anticipated are papers for 20 minute presentations on the confluence of art and science in the fields of hybrid arts, social sciences, design, urbanism, environmental studies etc. The main target group is doctoral students from different fields of research.
The collaboration between art and science and various hybrid research practices have become keywords of the 21st century. Artworks, where different fields are intertwined, which involve scientific innovation as well as cultural/historical traditions, expand our imagination and provoke questions that are important for us today.
Answers are sought for the following key questions:
1. How to understand science and art in a contemporary framework? How do we understand interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary phenomena?
2. How is new knowledge produced through the collaboration of art and science? How to expand the dialogue between science and art and how could artists position themselves in this process?
3. How do scientific knowledge and artistic research spread in the society? How to find a common research language that would also conform to the cultural expectations of our society?
The conference accompanies an exhibition on the same topic, titled “Rhizope”, which takes place from 29 May to 24 August 2014 at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design.
The conference is organized by the Estonian Academy of Arts and the Graduate School of Culture Studies and Arts, with the support from the Estonian Cultural Endowment, embassy of the United States, Tallinn, Estonia and other partners.
