Palladium Riga to host British multi-instrumentalist Sohn
Lugemisaeg 2 minOn November 27th the Palladium Riga concert hall will host the first Baltic show of the emerging English musician, songwriter, and producer Sohn.
Sohn (stylized SOHN), born Christopher Taylor, is an English musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Vienna, Austria. Critics often compare his musical style to those of James Blake, Bon Iver and How to Dress Well. Along with his own work, Sohn has also worked extensively with other artists, including Lana Del Rey, BANKS, Kwabs and Rhye.
Achieving substantial critical acclaim with his debut solo singles, Sohn’s first EP The Wheel (2012) was released by the London-based Aesop label. His debut album Tremors (2014) was recently released by 4AD, whose label artists include The National, St. Vincent, Pixies, Grimes, Future Islands, Daughter and many more.
The Guardian describes Sohn’s music as sadwave and slowtronica-like minimalist electronic soul, with vocals that, unlike with other artists of the genre, are “intrinsic to his work” rather than an afterthought and often take centre stage. As Sohn’s voice “races a sorrowful melody over a glistening production”, his music is “as much a showcase for his voice as his voice casts an appealing light on the music.”
With Sohn casting “his falsetto in blues-worthy scenarios” and remixing artists like Disclosure, Rolling Stone dubs him “a one-man band balancing songcraft and heady post-dubstep production”.
While discussing his debut record Tremors (2014) with London In Stereo, Sohn admits that he “[…] didn’t want to make an album that was too dark, or lacking air. An album’s like a big empty house: if you don’t open any windows it’s never going to feel fresh. On this album, the windows are wide open.”
Tickets to the concert are available from June 13 starting from 15 euros.
